After completing our hike to the window (previous post), we headed out to identify our campsite for that night. We started out on the Marufo Vega Trail which runs into the Rio Grande about 7 miles from the trailhead. We didn’t go nearly that far, but the wind was unruly that afternoon and we found a spot to bunker down a few miles in.

We pitched our tents slightly above an old riverbed.
The next morning we awoke to a quiet, windless dawn. We heated up some coffee and packed up for the hike back.
A hunter rode out from the Mexican side, headed for the canyon on horseback.
All this icy and snowy Chicago weather, while really putting me in the Christmas spirit, is also making me miss the warm desert!
